The Social Initiatives Group for Managerial Assistance or SIGMA-oikos Delhi is a student-run body of XLRI Delhi-NCR campus. There is a growing need for managers of today – and more importantly, of tomorrow – to work towards improving the health of the society. As the name suggests, SIGMA strives to create awareness on social issues among young managers. The committee provides opportunities to bring about a positive change for the impoverished sections of the society under the able guidance of Prof. Madhukar Shukla, leading personnel in the field.
Within a few months since inception, SIGMA hosted the first ever Daan Utsav celebration in the Delhi-NCR campus where different stakeholders played their part in spreading the joy of giving back to the society. Events such as “Plantation Drive”, “Meal For Smile”, and “Shaam-E-Khaas” took centre stage as the student volunteers played their part in making a difference.
SIGMA is also responsible for providing students with live projects from organizations in the social sector. The idea is to provide the managers of tomorrow an exposure to social initiatives as the ventures reap the benefits of some of the brightest minds of the country aim to solve the real-life challenges faced by the organization.
The committee also has several educational programmes in the pipeline to complement the Basic English Learning Program (BELP). SIGMA will aim to target underprivileged children in the vicinity of the campus in an attempt to supplement their educational needs.
SIGMA also aims to create long-term relationship with social entrepreneurs and other influential personalities in the social sector through talks, workshops and live projects.
The long-term vision of SIGMA is to sensitize future managers on social issues and urge them to fulfil their duties as change bearers of the society.
